Imsin (壬申) day pillar
A great river rising from rock: a wide, quick mind
What the Imsin day pillar is like
Imsin is water (壬) springing from metal (申). Metal makes water, so Indirect Resource (편인) sits below, and the stage is Birth (장생). Sitting on its own source, the pillar is read as broad and quick in thought, fast to take in new information.
It is good at moving between fields and linking them. Work with travel, or with connecting people and information, often appeals. The 戊 hidden in 申 is Seven Killings (편관), so behind the easy manner there can be a habit of putting pressure on itself.
Ideas tend to run ahead of what the body can keep up with. Narrowing the channel, one thing at a time, lets the river show its strength.
The Imsin ilju (day pillar), character by character
Number 9 of the sixty-pillar cycle. The table shows what Halmeoni's calendar engine computes for this pillar.
| Fact | Value |
|---|---|
| Top character (day master) | 壬 — the sea or a great river (yang water) |
| Bottom character (day branch) | 申 — Monkey · metal · early autumn (about August) |
| Yin-yang | yang (both characters) |
| Elements | water above, metal below |
| How the two relate | The bottom character feeds the top one: support from the ground up. |
| Hidden stems (ten gods) | 戊 Seven Killings (편관), 壬 Friend (비견), 庚 Indirect Resource (편인) |
| Ten god of the day branch | Indirect Resource (편인) — unusual learning, intuition |
| Twelve stages | Birth (장생) — being born: beginnings, growth |
| Void branches (공망) | 戌, 亥 — an empty spot: what is hard to hold on to |
Hidden stems are the forces tucked inside the bottom character; the last one listed is the strongest. Ten gods describe each character as seen from the top character, the day master, so the same bottom character gets a different name under a different day master. The void branches are the two that have no partner in this pillar's ten-day week; they only matter when they appear elsewhere in a chart.
A day pillar is only two of the eight characters in a chart. People who share it can read very differently once the year, month and hour are added, so take this as entertainment, not as a verdict on who you are.
